Story
The Wai Wai people live in Brazil and Guyana. In Brazil, they are in the state of Amazonas, Pará, and Roraima. In Guyana, they are in the whole country. Their language is of Karib origin and is predominant in their villages and communities, coexisting with other languages.
The current population of this tribe in Brazil is about 2502 and 170 in Guyana.
In terms of their art, all the women in the village make handicrafts, and the older ones are in charge of pieces that involve the more complex use of morototó seeds. The girls help their mothers in making bracelets and necklaces. The men work with basketry, combs, paddles, and feather ornaments.
This tribe is known for its navigation along the Amazonian rivers. Today, the Wai Wai paddle, in addition to being an incredible piece of art, carries all the history and power of this people.
Made with wood from the region and painted with natural pigments. The graphics made for “decoration” represent elements of nature and cosmological beings.
Limited edition of 4 handmade and unique Wai Wai Paddles.
